It should be a better-than-average car in the Emerald Executive Aisle.

Calling it now, I think the C8 will be a massive fuck up and GM is gonna be pooched.
They can’t seem to do anything right and Ford/FCA are cannibalizing their bread and butter (trucks/pony cars) while ze Germans destroy Cadillac

I hate to say it but that is a sad and maybe perfectly correct early call. It never really crossed my mind that a mid engined Corvette could ever be a fuck up. Then I read that article on the FP about boomers that hate it etc...
I thought, “well fuck, no one but boomers buy new V ettes, how am I gonna get one for 30k a decade later?”

Do you know how many times my dad/mom and their boomer friends have said something to the effect of “blah blah can’t fit golf clubs blah blah” about a car?
TONS.
If your entire market is upper middle class white old people, IT SHOULD HOLD A GOLF BAG.

Didnt know Cadillac was gunning for the Acura and Infiniti crowd.
And to think we have the civic a hard time about plastic fake grill vents. Imo this is worse

what it looks like to me is Cadillac is 15 years behind the market trends. this should have been a crossover. no i don’t care if you hate them... if Cadillac wants to make it to through the crossover
reversal to wagonhalla and ev Paradise it has to play the game that's being played now.

I like it :(
It’s not the most “premium” looking color, and it’s dirty and not a very good quality picture. I mean, does this look that much better?
Of course, the BMW doesn’t have that awful fake panel on the C-pillar, but you can’t see that from the front.

Meh they all screamed at V6 F-150's and then again at aluminum F-150's, but they ended up throwing their money at it anyway.

Agree - it just looks * cheap* and this isn’t even from the angle showing that horrid plastic hunk of trim on the C pillar. Overall it doesn’t look bad, but it’s starting to feel like they cut a ton of corners to get that MSRP.

Same. My dad leaves his clubs at the place where he plays 99% of the time. So he got a 2017 F150 crew cab with the 6.5 foot bed and a really nice tonneau cover so that the two pairs of golf shoes that ride back there have plenty of room, haha. In all seriousness he actually bought it for the one trip per year they take to the cabin which is almost equally as loony to me, but I had fun helping him find and buy the truck!

Sometimes you need to think of them as textured aerodynamic surfaces disguised
as vents.

This will be the sad consequence.
IF the Corvette is a failure because it was executed poorly, it won’t be about that, it will be blamed on being mid-engined, because that is the big gestalt shift in the corvette world.
A mid-engined car need not be a failure. A failure of a Corvette may not be related to the engine placement, but rather the failure of practical useability, looks, finish quality, and price.
But if it happens, it will almost invariably teach the WRONG lesson, and prevent any further mid-engined car project that is anywhere near affordable.

Yeah, but that didn’t impact the capability of the f150. It was just some marketing bs.

because Chevy’s 4 cylinder offering is awful, the new truck looks horrendous (in many people’s opinion) and Chevy has gone for a cylinder deactivation strategy, which competes quite well. So it’s no surprise to me that they aren’t selling a whole lot of trucks with anything smaller than a 5.3 V8.
Ford on the other hand only has one V8 in the lineup and on top of that they heavily promote the 2.7 and 3.5 EB.

I’d argue, yeah. Can it hold clubs?
Can it hold a fat guy and his fat wife?
Can it take a scooter on the back deck?

I was an absolute GM apostle when it was deeply uncool in the 2006-12 period. I saw huge improvements in product, big movements in the right direction in terms of marketing, vehicles meeting their segment benchmarks, available performance options, etc.
Now I see it all slipping away. The first armor chink was the 2013 Chevy Malibu that improved on its predecessor exactly none. Then Cadillac continued its cavalcade of failure with the ATS, CTS gen 3, ELR, XTS, and then CT6. All of those programs were supposed to be bigger, meet the competition more closely, and move Cadillac back upmarket from value-priced luxury to the big-time. After billions were spent on unique platforms and endless marketing re-thinks, HQ moves, etc. Noooooope.
Now that GM has managed to piss away the Camaro’s commanding lead in the pony car segment against an 11 year-old Challenger and the Mustang, to the point where rumors are pretty solid it’ll be dead in a few years... it’s clear to me that they’ve completely lost the plot.
The new CT4 and CT5 give me no reason to think differently. The XT4 and XT5 do not look anymore special than the Equinox and Blazer. GM is retreating Cadillac back to value pricing and away from offering anything that isn’t derivative. The C8 literally looks like they pasted Corvette styling cues on the Acura NSX shape, and their sole innovation is to sell it for $75k.
I’m gobsmacked by it all.
